Oluyede Reveals His Conversation with President Tinubu at Aso Villa
Oluyede shares details of his discussion with President Tinubu during their meeting at Aso Villa, highlighting key issues and potential policy directions.
Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has committed to addressing issues of insecurity throughout Nigeria.
After meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Oluyede spoke to journalists on Monday and assured Nigerians of his dedication to tackling the country’s security issues.
Oluyede disclosed that he had assured President Tinubu of his commitment to intensifying efforts in fighting terrorism and addressing other security threats.
He emphasized that a central element of his strategy is the elimination of the Lakurawa terrorist group, which has consistently posed a threat in certain regions of the country.
Emphasizing the significance of regional collaboration, the COAS remarked that enhancing relations with neighboring Niger Republic would be vital in combatting cross-border terrorism and disrupting militant groups such as Lakurawa.
During his visit, he stated: “This is connected to my appointment. I am here to assure the President that I will strive to improve Nigeria’s security. I’m considering approaching this in a potentially different manner.”

“I aim to achieve results that will improve Nigeria, which is my main reason for coming. Additionally, I am here to seek his support, something he has consistently offered over the years.”
Visits military personnel
The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff also discussed his recent visits to military bases in the Northwest and Northeast.
I visited to talk with my officers and soldiers, emphasizing the importance of ending all forms of insecurity.
I clearly expressed my expectation for improved results in the future.
Regarding the cross-border aspect of Lakurawa’s activities, Oluyede stated: “We are taking strong action on their operations within Nigeria.”
Oluyede, the new Chief of Army Staff, assured that typically they flee to the Republic of Niger. However, with Niger now cooperating, Lakurawa will soon become a thing of the past.
