Olukoyede Updates Interpol: EFCC Records 500 Cybercrime Convictions

Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), highlighted that the commission has successfully obtained 500 convictions related to cybercrimes within recent months.

Quoting a consultant, he emphasized that cybercrime has now become the third largest contributor to the global gross domestic product (GDP).

Olukoyede reiterated the commitment of the EFCC to combat cybercrimes, stating that these activities pose significant threats to the progress and prosperity of nations.

During a meeting with a delegation from Interpol, he mentioned that the EFCC, alongside other international law enforcement agencies like the FBI and NCA, has been actively collaborating to address cybercrimes.

He expressed readiness to further enhance efforts in this regard and urged global leaders to facilitate the exchange of crucial information to tackle cyber threats effectively.

The leader of the Interpol delegation, Mr. Craig Jones, explained the organization’s role in collaborating with private partners worldwide to identify and dismantle criminal networks involved in fraudulent activities.
