Ogun hospital experiences patient escape due to unpaid medical bills

Saba Elizabeth, a patient at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, in Ogun State, is wanted by the Ogun State Police Command.

After receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness at the medical centre, the woman reportedly ran away on Saturday because she couldn’t afford her medical costs.

She was reportedly scheduled to be released from the medical center’s gynaecology unit on November 16, 2023, after being admitted on November 11, 2023.

However, she was unable to leave the hospital because she had not paid her debts to the medical facility.

She was accused of lying to hospital employees, saying that she knew she couldn’t afford her medical costs, so she went to a nearby store to get food, but she never came back to the hospital.

According to reports, the medical center’s chief security officer, Akpoji Joshua, reported the incident to the Kemta Police Division on Sunday after attempts to locate her proved fruitless.

Public relations officer for the state police, Omolola Odutola, informed reporters on Tuesday that the Kemta Division police were helping the hospital find the patient.

She said, “We are looking into it to find out where she is through her family.”
