Ogun: Female manager’s husband is accused of killing her employer after collecting N15 million ransom
Otunba Abayomi Ajayi Smith, the Director of the Rolak Hotel in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, was reportedly kidnapped and killed by a lady named Okereke Olufunmilayo, who worked as the manager of a building supplies business.
According to reports, Olufunmilayo committed the crime with the help of her husband, Larry Adebayo Adewumi, and a man named Adebowale Sanni.
On September 28, 2020, at approximately 7:30 am, several gunmen abducted the hotelier from Anifowose Estate Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode.
Despite the N15 million ransom his family had paid, he was slain by his captors.
Police officers have since kept up their attempts to identify individuals responsible for the hotelier’s kidnapping and murder.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the spokesman for the Ogun State Police, claims that the anti-kidnapping unit commanded by SP Taiwo Opadiran was successful in thwarting the gang’s attempts to abduct Smith’s wife and son in September of this year.
One of the suspects, 55-year-old Adebowale Sanni, was allegedly tracked to Ikeji Arakeji in Osun State, where he was quickly detained, as the team began conducting technological surveillance on the accused.
During questioning, Oyeyemi said Sanni admitted to being after Mrs. Olusola Roseline Ajayi at the ringleader Larry Adebayo Adewumi’s direction. Adewumi’s wife, Olufunmilayo, worked for Otunba Ajayi.
He further admitted that Larry gave him information about the victim’s hotel and other business locations with the directive that, if they were successful in kidnapping the woman and her son, the two of them had to be killed after receiving ransom in order to leave no evidence, just as they had done to her husband two years prior, according to Oyeyemi.
It was learned that his confession resulted in the arrest of Olufunmilayo and her spouse.
Oyeyemi claims that Ilesha Osun State native Larry was a fraudster in the past before going into the kidnapping business full-time.
His strategy was to look for a wealthy target before mobilizing the gang that worked for him to go after that individual, according to Oyeyemi.
According to reports, the aforementioned Larry obtained comprehensive knowledge on the late Otunba Ajayi via his manager, Olufunmilayo.
According to a police investigation, Larry used to keep the money earned from his unlawful operations in two different bank accounts.
Oyeyemi revealed that the suspect has a N34,953,455 account at Jaiz Bank with the number 0010913206.
The amount of N4,576,846 is likewise in his Access Bank account.
According to reports, a Toyota Highlander model from 2014 was also found on him.
Lanre Bankole, the commissioner of police in Ogun, praised the police squad and ordered that further gang members be sought out and apprehended. He also ordered that the suspects be brought before a judge as soon as the investigation was over.
