NNPP Governorship Candidate in Ondo Withdraws from Race
The New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) nominee for governor of Ondo State in the election scheduled for November 16th, Mr. Israel Ayeni, has withdrew from the contest.
At the party’s primary on April 26, Ayeni defeated Prof. Ibrahim Ajagunna, his lone opponent, with 100 votes to win the party’s ticket.
In his letter of resignation, which was made available to media on Wednesday in Akure, Ayeni stated that his departure was in the best interests of the party.
I, Ayeni Oluwatosin Israel, the NNPP’s candidate for governor of Ondo State in the November 16, 2024, officially voluntarily withdraw from the race.

The letter stated, “My withdrawal is in the best interest of our great party, NNPP.”
Furthermore, according to Mr Peter Olagookun, the NNPP State Chairman, who verified the candidate’s withdrawal, Ayeni voluntarily withdrew his bid in order to make room for a stronger one from the party.
On the phone with NAN, Olagookun announced that the party’s substitute governorship primary would take place on Wednesday.
He said that the party’s new candidature will increase its chances of winning the upcoming state governorship race.
