Comrade Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), is optimistic that the Federal Government and organised labour will finish their negotiations on a new minimum wage by March of this year.
Ajaero stated, “The Federal Government had asked the organised labour to release our names to the new minimum wage committee to be constituted,” in a phone conversation with reporters on Thursday.

“The list has been provided to the government since last year, and we as a union would only begin negotiations with the government to reach an agreement on it after the committee is created.
It is hoped that we can wrap up the negotiations for a new minimum wage by March of this year, as the current one will expire in March.
“Everything should be released to the workers by the end of this year January,” he said, speaking about the pay award given by the Federal Government to the Nigerian labour. He claimed that only one month had been paid.
