The Nigerian Army stated on Wednesday that the training of its finance officers across the nation is intended to help them perform at their best within the confines of the law.

The Army further urged commanders and soldiers to exercise initiative and skill in carrying out their constitutional duty to safeguard the lives and property of the populace.

Major General Adetokunbo Fayewimo, the Chief of Accounts and Budget of the Nigerian Army, issued the order as he was opening a two-day capacity training for finance officers of the 3 Armoured Division at Rukuba Barracks in Jos.

He also emphasised to the group that before being finance officials, they are military personnel.

The training’s focus was on developing the Nigerian Army’s capacity to deliver financial services in a professional and effective manner.

According to Fayewimo, “The Divisional Finance Training is Designed to Address the Training Needs of Finance Officers and Soldiers Down to the Battalion and Company Levels.

It gives staff members a strong platform to learn about current government financial policies.

The training, he continued, also aims to give financial officials in the division the skills they need to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities.

“Let me restate that the Nigerian Army is prepared to defeat current challenges to our entire national security.

Fayewimo exhorted the finance officers of the Nigerian Army to perform their duties “proactively and proficiently.”

By completing the aforementioned, it is further stated that “All financial services are supplied to the personnel at the appropriate location and time.

In addition to being finance officers, you must always keep in mind that you are members of the Nigerian Army.

The country’s divisions will all participate in the training, the Chief of Accounts and Budget added.

It cannot be overstated how important training is to every organisation, said Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, GOC 3 Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, Jos. He added, “Training is a vital condition for success in any military action.

For the Nigerian Army, training is still crucial to performing its commitment to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Continuous training of officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army is therefore necessary to ensure that they remain proficient to carry out their duties at all times,” he said.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has been making concerted efforts to ameliorate these challenges, to reposition the country to achieve sustainable development, Abubakar, who also serves as the Commander OPSH, said, while acknowledging that the country is struggling with both insecurity and economic issues.

“One of these efforts by the Federal Government is the public sector reform, which has reviewed how government funds are used,” he declared.

“Despite these reforms, the Nigerian Army has maintained its effectiveness in performing its constitutional duties by protecting the safety of citizens’ lives and property while giving enough attention to personnel welfare.

“This is one of the three sub trainings aimed at providing the finance corps with the necessary tools to enhance their performance,” Acting Commander, financial and Accounts, Col. C.H. Ajoku, stated in his opening remarks.
