Nigerian Army Destroys 22 Lakurawa Camps in Sokoto, Kebbi, Recovers Arms

In a major operation, the Nigerian Army dismantles 22 Lakurawa camps in Sokoto and Kebbi states, recovering weapons and neutralizing threats to regional security.

The troops from the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, assigned to ‘Operation Fasan Gamma’, have successfully demolished 22 camps belonging to Lakurawa terrorists located in Sokoto and Kebbi states.

The troops also neutralized several terrorists and recovered four rifles, along with 409 rounds of PKT, 7.62mm NATO, and special 7.62mm ammunition.

Before the development, troops conducted initial and preparatory operations in the forests and enclaves of the bandits.

The troops engaged the terrorists in forests located in Rumji Dutse, situated east of Sarma. These areas include Tusauna, Bauni, Malgatawa, Gargao, Tsauna, Mafara, Kaideji; villages such as Nakuru and Sama; Sanyinna and Kaididda regions; along with Kolo and Dancha communities within Illela. The operations extended across Tangaza and Bingo local government areas in Sokoto State.

Remember that the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, had dispatched a Special Operations Brigade to Sokoto and Kebbi states.

The deployment aims to build on the successes of Operation Forest Sanity III, continuing efforts to eliminate the Lakurawa terrorists.

While addressing the troops, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, who serves as both the General Officer Commanding of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of Sector 2 Operation Fasan Yamma, conveyed a directive from Major General Oluyinka Soyele, Theatre Commander for Operation Fasan Gamma. He instructed them to ensure complete destruction of the Lakurawa sect.

He instructed the troops to follow the rules of engagement and ensure the protection of law-abiding citizens’ lives and properties.

He stated that the troops have been carefully selected and trained for the mission, so Nigerians are relying on their skill and professionalism to eliminate the Lakurawa.

He added that deploying the Brigade will further hinder bandit activities and help restore normalcy in the affected communities and throughout the North-West.
