A further N900,000,000 has been recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the National Health Insurance Plan (NHIS).

The recovery was reported in a statement on Saturday by Wilson Uwujaren, Head of Media & Publicity at the EFCC.

Banks, according to Uwujaren, fraudulently withheld the funds by refusing to deposit them into the NHIS’ Treasury Single Account, or TSA.

According to the spokeswoman, the NHIS received the recovered monies on February 8, 2023.

One year after several financial institutions were paid back with N1,500,000,000, the date was made public.

The N1,400,000,000 that was previously released to the Scheme on August 5, 2022 is in addition to this, according to Uwujaren.

The anti-graft commission was praised by the executive secretary of the NHIS, Prof. Muhammad Nasir Sambo, for helping to recover the cash that had been trapped.
