The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) criticizes Starlink for raising its subscription prices without regulatory consent, signaling potential enforcement actions.

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) stated that Starlink recently increased its subscription prices without obtaining prior approval from the Commission.

Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at NCC, stated this in a brief announcement on Tuesday.

He stated that Starlink’s unilateral decision to increase their subscription packages was not approved by the NCC.

The Director further mentioned that the company’s actions violated Sections 108 and 111 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, as well as Starlink’s license conditions concerning tariffs.

Mouka stated that the Commission began pre-enforcement action against the licensee on October 3, 2024.

The company’s decision to modify its prices without approval jeopardizes regulatory stability in the telecommunications sector.

“We will implement suitable enforcement actions against any such conduct by licensees,” he stated.
