NASS calls on Tinubu to address infrastructure crisis

The National Assembly has strongly recommended that President Bola Tinubu should announce a state of emergency concerning the nation’s infrastructure, as stated by the Chairmen of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Works, Sen. Barinada Mpigi and Hon. Akin Alabi, respectively.

They emphasized the urgent need for this declaration due to the significant challenges faced by the country’s infrastructure.

The lawmakers highlighted that the financial resources required to address these infrastructure issues far exceed what can be provided through annual Appropriations.

During an inspection of the Third Mainland, Eko, and Carter bridges in Lagos, the lawmakers, who were part of the Minister of Works, David Umahi’s entourage, assured that the National Assembly is committed to supporting these crucial projects within the legal framework.

The Minister and his team also visited the ongoing rehabilitation works on the 3rd Mainland Bridge, with plans to start the rehabilitation of the Carter Bridge after recently mobilizing the project contractor with N7b.

It was stressed that the completion of phase one of the 3rd Mainland Bridge’s rehabilitation signifies the dedication of the Tinubu administration to not only restore this bridge but also conduct extensive repairs on the Eko and Carter bridges in Lagos, aligning with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
