Friday saw a plea from Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to the people of the state to put aside their differences in race, politics, and religion.

He also emphasised how important unity is to them as a people.

I implore everyone living in the Plateau to resist letting our disparities in race, religion, and politics keep us apart.

“As I have frequently stated, our power lies in our solidarity; no force, no matter how strong, can defeat a united people,” he emphasised.

It is an honour to address you on this much anticipated occasion of the coronation and presentation of the office staff to the new Ngolong Ngas, His Royal Highness Nde Jika Golit, on First Class rank, the governor had earlier stated.

As we all know, the traditional institution is essential to the preservation of our cultural legacy and the advancement of our coexistence as a people who share a shared identity, thus this occasion is special and very important to my administration.

We cherish the ongoing upholding of customs, traditions, and behaviours that advance the interests of the populace as a whole.

“As you are all know, God the creator, in His divine manner, called the late Ngolong Ngas, Nde Joshua Dimlong of happy memory, home to eternal glory to join his forefathers almost ten years ago.

“This loss left a void, and by God’s unique mercy, a peaceful successor who will carry up from where he stopped appeared.

“With God’s blessing, he will be crowned today and given the office’s personnel to carry on the excellent deeds of his predecessor.

In light of this, I would like to congratulate Nde Jika Golit, the Ngolong Ngas, on his accession to the throne of his ancestors. Other ethnic groups in the state should take note and emulate the kingmakers’ peaceful and non-aggressive selecting process.

Let me state up front that it is now highly convenient for us to have this extraordinary event during this pivotal time in our history as a group.

“As you are aware, a week of mourning was proclaimed in Bokkos, Mangu, and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas in memory of our beloved people who were brutally killed during the vicious Christmas Eve attacks and the days that followed.

As a result, in honour of the week of sorrow, this event will be low key and devoid of the customary processions, glitz, and festivities. May the Lord console us, especially those who are directly impacted, and may their souls rest in peace.
