Ministers receive severe warning from Tinubu: “Perform or be sacked

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu declared that the retention of ministers in his cabinet will be determined by their performance, which will be evaluated on a regular basis. ⁏ ⁶

According to Tinubu, the statement was made at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja when he opened the 2023 Cabinet Retreat for Ministers, Presidential Aides, Permanent Secretaries, and Top Government Functionaries.

“You have nothing to worry about if you are performing; if not, you can depart from us. We go over the objective together. The president urged everyone not to obstruct Nigeria’s progress.

Across the eight main sectors of his government, Tinubu stated that the performance of the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies will be constantly monitored by Hadiza Usman, his Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, who will lead the Result Delivery Unit.

The objectives are as follows: Ending Poverty: to promote economic growth and development through job creation, food security, and poverty eradication; Economic Growth and Job Creation: to promote economic growth and development through job creation, food security, and poverty eradication; and Access to Capital: to promote economic growth and development through job creation, food security, and poverty eradication.

Others are: Inclusivity: Utilising All Available Skills highlighting women and young people in national events; The purpose of security is to protect the country against acts of terror and criminal activity.

Fairness and the rule of law: upholding the rule of law, governing impartially in accordance with the constitution, and Counter-Corruption Position: To dissuade corruption while bolstering the efficacy and efficiency of diverse counter-corruption organisations.

Tinubu also stated unequivocally that accountability would be maintained and performances will be assessed.

A performance bond is part of this, which will serve as the foundation for recurring assessments and reviews.

He advised the ministers to “stay where you are and work if you don’t.

“Furthermore, Tinubu emphasised the value of teamwork in advancing the nation and reiterated his faith in the democratic process.

Amidst the commotion all around them, he told the participants, they needed to stay focused like a driver in a tunnel to deliver the products.

He claimed that he had taken over the assets and liabilities of his predecessor.

He said, “You face your front and concentrate on your lane; don’t look at the skies or sideways.”

The best defence against poverty, he claimed, is access to high-quality healthcare and education, which he emphasised while acknowledging that his administration had spent the last six months “reviewing ourselves.”

Foreign investors were given confidence by the president that they could bring in their capital, invest it, and repatriate their gains without any problems.

He promised to remove barriers to economic progress as he declared the nation open for business.

Except for the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, who was not visible at the meeting, other ministers and ministers of state are seated for the three-day exercise.
