Massive Outage Disrupts Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp Worldwide
Millions of users worldwide experience disruptions as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp face a massive outage. The cause is under investigation as frustration mounts globally.
In a major disruption, Meta’s primary platforms—Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp—have suffered outages that have left millions of users worldwide unable to access their accounts or share content.
Social media platforms, such as X (formerly known as Twitter), were inundated with complaints from users experiencing issues. Downdetector, a service that tracks outages, noted significant surges in complaints. Instagram saw over 71,000 reported problems while Facebook had more than 107,000 reports globally.
On Facebook, users have reportedly seen a message stating, “We’re working on fixing this as soon as possible.”
The outage has led to a surge of activity on X, as users flock to the platform to see if others are experiencing similar problems.
The hashtag #instagramdown has been trending on X during this time.
On X.com, Shay tweeted as #uloveshaaay: “Whenever my Instagram or Facebook fails to load, I immediately check Twitter to see if it’s just me. Thankfully, I’m not alone!”
“Jumping onto Twitter to check if #Whatsapp, #Facebook, and #Instagram are down for everyone or just my internet,” wrote user @iamrazi18 on X.
In a post on X.com on Wednesday, Meta responded to the downtime by stating, “We’ve identified a technical issue affecting some users’ access to our apps. We are actively working to resolve this and restore regular service as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Using the hashtag #instagramdown, Instagram posted on X.com: “Hello! We’re aware of a technical issue affecting some users’ access to Instagram. Our team is working diligently to resolve it and restore normal service as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
WhatsApp posted on X.com, “We are aware of the issues with accessing WhatsApp and are actively working on a solution. We have noticed improvements for most users and expect everything to return to normal soon.”
This outage is the latest in a series of similar disruptions that have affected Meta apps previously, including a significant service interruption back in March.
While Meta strives to restore normal service, users are left anticipating news about when the issue will be resolved.
