Man is remanded by the court after being accused of theft
Mr. Abba Mohammed has been ordered to be detained in a detention facility for allegedly stealing by an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja.
Following Mohammed’s admission of guilt to the charged offence, Judge Muhammad Wakili issued the directive.
Wakili decided to postpone the case till the sentencing date of October 9.
The defendant was accused of stealing and criminal trespass by the police.
Earlier, Mohammed visited a store on September 11 under the pretence of purchasing a gas cylinder, according to the prosecution’s attorney, SP Babajide Olanipekun, who testified in court.
According to Olanipekun, Mohammed allegedly took N23,500 in cash from Uchenna Madugba, but he was caught trying to flee.
The money was allegedly retrieved from Mohammed, according to the prosecutor, who also noted that the offence was against Penal Code Sections 348 and 288.
Theft is punishable by a seven-year prison sentence, a fine, or both, according to Section 288.
