Fraud is the charge against the defendant, whose residence was withheld.
The defendant committed the act in Ado-Ekiti on April 6, 2023, at around 2:00 pm, the police prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, had earlier told the court.
Under the guise of a building engineer, he said the defendant had taken N1.3 million from the plaintiff, Mr Olaleye Arinola.
According to Adeniyi, the offence was against Sections 329(2) and (3) of the Ekiti State, 2021 Criminal Law.
He begged the judge to postpone the hearing so he could review the documentation and gather his witnesses.
To the charge that was preferred against him, the defendant, however, entered a not guilty plea.
Mr. Stephen Ademuagun, the defendant’s attorney, begged the court to release his client on bond and assured them he wouldn’t breach it.
The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N100,000 with two sureties in the same amount by Magistrate Mrs. Olubunmi Bamidele. The matter was then postponed till February 8th for a hearing.
