Dr. Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the Northwest All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed his intention to take legal action against the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for violating the party’s constitution.
In a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu dated May 21, Lukman highlighted the absence of meetings of organs as stipulated by the APC Constitution, emphasizing that the party is operating without adhering to its own constitutional provisions.
Lukman has given a two-week ultimatum to the NWC to ensure the activation of all organs of the APC in accordance with the party’s constitution, warning that failure to do so will result in legal action being taken against the party.

He criticized the NWC for assuming the powers of all organs and making decisions without proper consultation, which not only contravenes the APC Constitution but also goes against relevant sections of the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act.
Lukman pointed out that decisions that should be made by established party organs are being taken by individual leaders outside of those structures, highlighting the lack of inauguration of critical organs like the Board of Trustees (renamed the National Advisory Council) since the formation of the APC in 2013.
As a proponent of democracy, Lukman stressed the importance of upholding the laws that regulate political parties and their leadership, urging for immediate action to activate all APC organs in compliance with the party’s constitution between May 21, 2024, and June 7, 2024.
