Lebanon Reports 8 Dead, Over 2,000 Injured Due to Exploding Pagers
A tragic incident in Lebanon leaves 8 people dead and more than 2,000 injured after a series of exploding pagers causes widespread devastation. Authorities are investigating the cause.
On Tuesday, Lebanon’s health ministry reported that no fewer than eight individuals lost their lives and over 2,700 sustained injuries due to exploding handheld pagers throughout the country.
Medics and Hezbollah fighters are among those who have been injured.
Israel has been accused by the armed group for causing the explosions, which according to one official, is their most significant security violation during a yearlong conflict with Israel.
Since last October’s conflict in Gaza, the two parties have been involved in cross-border warfare.
No remarks have been given by the Israeli military regarding the occurrence.
A few months ago, the leader of Hezbollah instructed its fighters to cease using smartphones due to concerns that Israel possessed technology capable of tracking these devices.
The detonation method of the pagers is not immediately evident.
All medical personnel are being urgently requested by the health ministry to report to their respective hospitals in order to assist with the overwhelming amount of injured individuals.
Healthcare workers and people using pagers have been advised to dispose of them.
