Lawmaker from Enugu denies existence of leadership crisis within Labour Party

Mr. Harrison Ogara, the representative for Igbo-Eze South Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, has strongly refuted the claim of a leadership crisis within the Labour Party (LP).

In response to the defection of six LP members to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ogara emphasized that there was no crisis within the party that would justify such defections.

He labeled the claim as “untrue and deceptive,” asserting that the defectors simply wanted to abandon the party that had brought them to power.

Ogara made it clear that while he acknowledges the performance of Governor Peter Mbah, it is possible to support him while remaining loyal to the Labour Party. 2.

Ogara further expressed his disappointment in the defectors, stating that they were free to join any political party of their choice, but they should not resort to deceit and lies in the process.

He emphasized that the Labour Party would take action to declare the seats of the defected lawmakers vacant, citing section 51 of the 2022 Electoral Act, which states that legislators who cross-carpet to another party automatically lose their seats.

Ogara expressed regret that the defectors had abandoned the platform that had brought them to power and asserted that moving forward, the Labour Party would only give its ticket to individuals who are truly committed to the party.
