Lassa Fever Kills 12 in Ondo, Over 100 Cases Confirmed
A Lassa fever outbreak in Ondo State has claimed 12 lives, with over 100 confirmed cases, raising urgent public health concerns and the need for preventive measures.
At least 12 people have died from Lassa fever in Ondo State out of 112 confirmed cases.
Olusola Ajayi, the Statistician General of the state, disclosed that 353 suspected cases have been reported in the region.
Ajayi described the situation as alarming and encouraged workers of the state waste management authority to step up their efforts in maintaining cleanliness throughout the state.
The statistician general also urged waste management officials to work together with other stakeholders in the health sector to ensure a healthy environment, as a means of addressing this issue.
“We’re partners in this business, and with the data I’m about to share, we need to act quickly.”
In Ondo State today, there are 353 reported cases of Lassa fever, with 112 confirmed and 12 fatalities. Therefore, immediate action is essential.
A few days ago, Dr. Adeniran Ikuomola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, revealed that nearly 400 suspected cases of Lassa fever had been recorded in the state.
Ikuomola stated, “While I would have liked to provide an exact number of deaths, we have indeed recorded some. We currently suspect 400 cases and have confirmed 100.”
