Lagos Police Detain Officer Over Breach of Professional Conduct

The Lagos State Police Command has detained a police officer due to a lack of professionalism exhibited during an altercation with a citizen. This information was conveyed in a statement issued by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state Police spokesperson, on Friday.

The incident involved Aderele Aisha, who was driving against traffic and allegedly assaulted the officer while behaving in a disorderly and unruly manner.

According to the statement, although the officer displayed restraint for the most part, there were instances where his judgment was clouded by his emotions.

The statement further mentioned that the officer has been taken into custody for appropriate disciplinary measures.

The statement emphasized the importance of police officers exercising utmost restraint in the face of provocation and highlighted this incident as a learning opportunity for the entire police force.

Aderele Aisha, who drove against traffic and assaulted the officer, has expressed sincere apologies for her actions and has submitted a written apology.

While continuous efforts are made to train police officers to maintain professionalism, any officer who acts unprofessionally will not be spared. The statement also urged the public to maintain decorum when interacting with security agencies.
