Lagos Council Chairman Passes Away 48 Hours After Attending APC Chieftain’s Funeral

In a tragic turn of events, a Lagos council chairman has died just two days after paying his respects at the burial of a prominent APC chieftain.

Oladotun Olakanle, who served as the Executive Chairman of tmOnigbongbo Local Council Development Area, has passed away at 54.

Reports indicate that Olakanle passed away on Saturday, only a few days after attending the funeral of Dr. Adesola Taiwo, a notable leader in the All Progressives Congress (APC), which took place on October 31, 2024.

In a heartfelt message, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu conveyed profound sorrow over Olakanle’s death, describing it as both personal and significant.

Sanwo-Olu expressed his deepest condolences to the residents of Onigbongbo LCDA on behalf of his family, the people, and the Lagos State Government, following the passing of Council Chairman Hon. Oladotun Olakanle. He described this as a personal loss for himself and a significant loss for both the council and Lagos State.

He went on to say, “Hon. Olakanle was a dedicated politician and an indispensable member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His absence will certainly be felt deeply by the entire political community, especially within Onigbongbo LCDA, the Lagos APC family, and across the State.”

Sanwo-Olu also emphasized Olakanle’s commitment to the council’s development, stating, “As the Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, Olakanle was highly dedicated to advancing and enhancing the well-being of the council. This dedication was apparent in each program he led and through his administration’s outstanding performance over the past four years.”

The governor wrapped up by honoring Olakanle’s legacy, stating, “He will be remembered for establishing a lasting impact and his positive contributions to the growth and development of the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area. I pray that God grants our beloved Hon. Oladotun Olakanle eternal rest and brings comfort to his family as well as the people of Onigbongbo LCDA.” This statement was posted on Sanwo-Olu’s official X account.
