Labourer brought to court for alleged burglary and gas cylinder theft
Oluwambe Akide, a 23-year-old worker, was charged with burglary and theft of a gas cylinder and other valuables on Thursday at an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.
The defendant, who does not have a fixed residence, entered a not guilty plea to the two counts of burglary and theft.

Earlier, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, the prosecution, told the court that the defendant had committed the offences at No. 24, Odesanmi Street in Okitipupa on September 27, 2023, at around 10:00 a.m.
He stated that the defendant broke into the room of one Miss Damilola Solomon and took an audio player valued at N26,000, as well as garments and a petrol cylinder priced at N53,000. Blessing Sunday’s room was also broken into by the defendant.
Sections 411 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006, according to Orogbemi, stipulated the penalties for the infractions.
Mr. Cletus Ojuola, the Chief Magistrate, granted N100,000 in bail to the offender and an equivalent amount to one surety.
The matter was deferred until January 18 for a hearing after he ruled that the surety had to reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of two years’ worth of taxes paid to the state.
