In an attempt to dispute the results of the election, hundreds of supporters of Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Muritala Ajaka stormed the INEC offices on Saturday. Ajaka is running for governor of Kogi State.

Remember With 446,237 votes, INEC pronounced Ahmed Usman Ododo, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress, or APC, the victor of the poll on Sunday.

The electoral authority reports that Ajaka received 259,052 votes, good for second place, and Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party received 46,362 votes, good for third place.

The SDP candidate and his irate supporters reportedly went to the INEC offices to voice their displeasure with the conduct and results of the poll.

During the seven days allotted for inspection, the demonstrators demanded that Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, step down or declare Ajaka the election’s victor.

During the rally, the INEC headquarters was well guarded.

They expressed surprise that the results were accepted rather than overturned and pointed out that Kogi Central had overvotes in each of its five local government districts.
