Seven persons died when the bus they were riding in somersaulted at Okura in the Ankpa Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, according to confirmation from the Kogi State Police Command.

Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander Samuel Oyedeji had earlier acknowledged the deaths of three people, but in a reaction on Saturday, state police public relations officer SP William Aya stated that seven people had died.

There was only one vehicle collision involving a Toyota Hiace bus on the Ankpa/Okura/Egume/Ayingba road.

He said, “The bus somersaulted into the bush at Okura, where the driver and six other passengers lost their lives.”

He was unable to confirm the victims’ identities, but sources claimed they were Social Democratic Party members travelling to Ayingba for a stakeholders’ conference.

When contacted, Faruk Adejo-Audu, the SDP spokesman, stated he was unaware of the accident but he would look into it and get back to her.

But at the time this report was submitted, he hadn’t finished doing so yet.
