The Kogi State All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign Council has demanded that Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party’s candidate for governor, and his supporters be taken into custody right away in order to stop what it called the state’s descent into chaos.

The ruling party charged that the attack on the state’s resident electoral commissioner’s home early on Friday morning was orchestrated by SDP sympathisers.

“They have finally done their worst by attacking the residence of the Kogi State INEC Commissioner, engaging security agents in a fierce gun battle, and eventually burning down some vehicles in the residence and in the area,” the APC Campaign Council said, adding that the attack was carried out days after it informed the country of SDP thugs’ plans to attack INEC.

At a Friday emergency press briefing, Campaign Council Director of Media and Publicity/Spokesperson Kingsley Fanwo stated, “The same arsonists also had an attempt to burn down the Kogi State Government House foiled by our eagle-eye security agents.” At the State APC Secretariat in Lokoja, the similar attempt was thwarted.

In order to hide the theft they allegedly carried out in Kogi East, where they killed APC supporters “and drove them out of collation centres to forge the results that were eventually trumped by the massive votes of Kogites for the Governor-Elect,” the APC claims that the SDP in the state and their allies are desperate to destroy some documents in INEC.

The SDP candidate and his allies, according to the Campaign Council, were trying to tamper with some INEC documents before giving them to their legal counsel.

“We don’t have any issues with giving legal teams access to records and information. It is customary. However, Fanwo said, “We won’t allow any desperate, bloodthirsty politician to tamper with the true verdict of the Kogi people.”

He stated that the lack of repercussions for the horrific murder of an APC supporter, Khadijat, at Kotonkarfe by SDP agents, was the reason for “the bold-face criminality being perpetrated by the defeated SDP candidate and his violent gang of criminals,” and that they had brought thugs from neighbouring states into Kogi.

“They boldly declared that Khadijat was carrying an arm. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and his gun-welding murderers have been able to roam the streets freely up to this point. He emphasised that they wouldn’t have had the courage to attack the Kogi Resident Electoral Commissioner if they had been arrested for the murder of an innocent woman.

“We also told the world of plans by the SDP to burn down the INEC Office in Lokoja,” the campaign spokeswoman said. We appreciate the protection provided to the INEC Office by the police and other security forces.

Disappointed with the heavy security surrounding INEC, the gun-wielding SDP thugs attempted to murder the Kogi State INEC Commissioner by going to his home. They started setting cars and other things on fire because they were fighting so fiercely with guns.

In order to hide the theft they carried out in Kogi East, where they murdered APC members and drove them from polling places in order to falsify the results that were ultimately overruled by the overwhelming number of Kogites who cast ballots for the governor-elect, they are desperately trying to burn some papers within INEC.

Before giving the INEC documents to their legal team, they are trying to tamper with them. We have no issues granting legal teams access to records and information. It is customary. However, we will not permit any desperate, bloodthirsty politician to meddle with the actual Kogi people’s verdict.

“To make sure their mandate is upheld, our people also relocated to Lokoja following their violent protests a few days ago. The Social Democratic Party and their bewildered candidate will never benefit from turning to assassination and arson.

It is imperative to apprehend Muritala Yakubu Ajaka immediately before he incites chaos in Kogi. Democracy is the people’s way of expressing their wishes. No number of shots will be able to quiet the voice of the ballot, as those wishes have already been stated.

We demand that Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and his fellow swimmers in the pool of violence be apprehended by the Police, DSS, and other security services right away in order to stop the spiral into chaos. Our supporters have been advised to maintain composure, and the call will have greater impact if the anarchists are quickly taken into custody and put on trial.

“What happened in Kogi East due to Muritala Yakubu Ajaka’s desperation was not seen in the West or Central. He became into an outlaw, attacking and murdering opposition members while bragging about his mouthpiece connection to some influential persons, which allowed him to escape punishment. The only way to prevent Kogi from devolving into anarchy is to use Muritala Yakubu Ajaka as a scapegoat. He wasn’t the only candidate to run for office. However, he is the only one who believes that in order to fulfil his unstoppable dream of seizing power by force, he must kill everything and everyone in his path. Totalitarianism is incompatible with a democratic environment.
