Killings: El-Rufai meets with Southern Kaduna leaders in a peace initiative

The chiefs of the three fighting parties have agreed to put their swords down as part of efforts to end the ongoing communal conflicts between the Atyap, Hausa, and Fulani tribes in Kaduna State’s Zangon Kataf Local Government Area (LGA).

The decision was made by the parties involved on Friday during a meeting with Governor Nasir El-Rufai and the leaders of the security services at Government House Kaduna. A peace and reconciliation committee was then formed, with members representing the Atyap, Hausa, and Fulani populations.

An Atyap, Hausa, and Fulani representative-led peace reconciliation committee was formed at the conference with the goal of resolving all outstanding concerns within a week for the Kaduna State Government to publish.

Land disputes between Atyap indigenous, Hausas, and Fulanis in Kaduna State’s Zangon Kataf LGA have led to violent clashes between the tribes over the years, with community leaders condemning one another.

El-Rufai met with leaders of the Atyap, Hausa, and Fulani groups in the final days of his administration in an effort to resolve the ongoing intercommunal fighting in Southern Kaduna.

The El-Rufai government made one final effort to address the unresolvable issues roiling numerous towns in the southern region of the state at the conference, which was attended by leaders of security services and observers from certain international organizations working on the peacekeeping effort.

The necessity for all parties to put down their weapons and return to the negotiation table was one of the topics covered during the discussion, and all the leaders were in favor of this approach.
