He expressed that his involvement in politics is driven by a commitment to good governance, with the goal of transforming Nigeria into a nation led by incorruptible individuals. However, he believes this objective can no longer be achieved within the current structure of the Labour Party.

Okonkwo expressed his disappointment that the party was no longer effective, making it challenging for him to pursue his political career with its support.

“Given that the party no longer exists in its current form, I am compelled to resign my membership. To all Nigerians of goodwill who supported us during critical times, I express my gratitude and pledge to remain loyal to the Nigerian people as I make decisions about my political future,” he added.

He chose to resign on the second anniversary of the 2023 presidential election, a decision he described as marking a new beginning for his political future.
