The former governor asserted that no amount of mistreatment, animosity, or hate speech could confer or revoke authority and professed to believe in the legal system.
Since the governorship election in March of last year, there have been legal battles between APC’s Gawuna and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Governor Yusuf was fired by the Tribunal and the Appellate Court, and he is presently appealing his dismissal in court.
Anyone who has been following my own political traits understands that it is politics of peace and without resentment, stated Shekarau. I see my political friends as colleagues and friends, irrespective of their political stance.
When it comes time to run, we enter the race, and after the results are in and the victor announced, my philosophy is that you can behave civilly if you can provide any convincing proof of wrongdoing. The game is over when the court takes a position and you follow it through to the very end; at that point, we get ready for the next election cycle.
There is a proverb that goes, “A candidate who is not willing to lose is not a civilised one.” You cannot be 100% certain no matter how certain you are. That’s it—the voters’ decision. However, that does not imply that you will accept garbage. You may appear in court if you have good cause. This is what we have been preaching in Kano.
“We’re crossing our fingers that they win their legal battle over the Kano governorship election. I’m telling the APC and the NNPP to accept the ruling of the Supreme Court and let there be peace. And I’m pleading with them to understand that hate speech, abuse, and hatred won’t grant or take away authority.
