Senator Bello Yusuf, a former minister of internal affairs and commerce in Nigeria, has passed away.
Between 1999 and 2007, Senator Yusuf served the Jigawa South West district as a senator for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He passed away at the age of 76.
He was chosen as a senator for the first time in April 1999 and then again in April 2003.
Politician and businessman Senator Yusuf held the positions of Minister of Internal Affairs in 1979 and Minister of Commerce in 1982.
He had a key role in reducing the flow of imported products into Nigeria as minister of commerce, which had a considerable negative impact on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
He was given the honorary title of “Sardaunan Dutse” in his native Jigawa.
Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON), a national decoration, was also awarded to him.
On Friday morning, Hussaini Dalhatu, a family friend of the dead, confirmed his passing to journalists. He also said that Jumat would be followed by funeral prayers at the palace of the Emir of Kano.
Apparently, the former politician passed away in Kano.
