Kano governor Abba Yusuf is suspended for six months
The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has encountered a significant political setback as the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has imposed a six-month suspension on him due to alleged anti-party activities.
The announcement of Yusuf’s suspension was made by the National Secretary of a faction of the party, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, on Tuesday.
Oginni stated that the governor’s suspension was a result of his refusal to attend a recent invitation to appear before a disciplinary committee and clarify his involvement in violations of the party’s constitution.
The Party Secretary revealed that Governor Yusuf was required to explain why, as an elected member of the NNPP, he participated in an illegal or factional national convention organized by the Kwankwasiya group at the Class Event Centre in Wuse, Abuja, on April 6, 2024.
Oginni briefed the media on the latest developments within the party, emphasizing the importance of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s appearance before the Disciplinary Committee to address the infractions against the party’s constitution.
In accordance with the provisions stated in Article 39.0, 39(1-4) regarding disciplinary procedures, His Excellency Abba Yusuf was given a fair and unrestricted opportunity to explore all possible avenues to resolve the issues under investigation, as outlined in the aforementioned article, in relation to the allegations of gross misconduct against him. However, he failed to take advantage of this opportunity by not appearing.
His Excellency, Gov Abba Yusuf, who was expected to appear before the Committee and provide an explanation as to why Article 39.6 (e,f & g) should not be invoked as sanctions against him, as a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party, failed to facilitate the submission of the Committee’s report, including recommendations for the urgent consideration of the National Working Committee.
In order to strengthen our internal disciplinary and democratic measures, particularly in terms of Party supremacy, without any bias, the leadership of the NNPP has no other choice but to take decisive action in accordance with the provisions of the NNPP constitution 2022, as amended.
Therefore, with the approval of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the unanimous decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our esteemed party, His Excellency, Gov Abba Yusuf of Kano State, is hereby suspended for a period of six months, effective immediately.
