JUST IN: DSS Arrests Journalist Soyinka at Lagos Airport
Journalist Soyinka was reportedly arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at Lagos Airport, raising questions about press freedom and the rights of journalists in Nigeria.
Adejuwon Soyinka, an investigative journalist has been apprehended by the Department of State Services operatives.
On Sunday, at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Soyinka – Regional Editor of The Conversation Africa – was apprehended.
One of Soyinka’s friends sent a distress message to OBASANJONEWS, reporting that he had been taken into custody shortly after his arrival from the United Kingdom.
According to the message from his friend, Soyinka was arrested without any explanation and has been kept in isolation.
At precisely 5:40 am on Sunday, August 25th, 2024, Adejuwon Soyinka was apprehended by officers of the Department of State Security at Lagos’ Muritala Muhammed International Airport. This event occurred just after his arrival in Nigeria onboard a Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom.
“At the time of this report, the security agency had not provided any explanation for his detention. Soyinka could not be contacted as he did not respond to messages and calls on his phone.”
Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson of DSS claimed that he had no knowledge about Soyinka’s apprehension when contacted.
He said he had no knowledge about the issue raised and did not have any remarks on it.
