Judge rejects annulling the election for governor of Abia
The election of Dr. Alex Otti, the candidate for governor of Abia and member of the Labour Party, LP, was not declared invalid by a Federal High Court.
The Kano LP candidates who ran in the general election of 2023, according to the court, were not legitimately elected.
According to Obasanjonews24, Ibrahim Haruna-Ibrahim requested that the certificate of return granted to all LP candidates proclaimed winners in Kano and the 35 states of the Federation, including the FCT, Abuja, be revoked and set aside.
Despite the conflicting responses to the ruling, Justice Nasir-Yunusa ruled that the Abia candidates who ran in the recently held general elections were not parties to the lawsuit.
According to Nasir-Yunusa, the court merely ruled that the Labour Party’s primary election in Kano State was invalid.
“This court does not have the authority to mandate the issuance of a certificate of return.
They are free to seek justice in the proper judicial division, he said.
