Joe Igbokwe to Atiku: ‘You Can’t Fly, Wait Till 2031 for 2027 Election
Joe Igbokwe advises Atiku Abubakar to wait until 2031 to contest the 2027 presidential election, sparking political debate and reaction.
Joe Igbokwe, a leader within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asserted that Atiku Abubakar, who was the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, will not become president in 2027.
Igbokwe, in a post on his Facebook page on Monday, asserted that Atiku is unlikely to succeed in 2027 and suggested he should aim for 2031 instead.
He mentioned that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, continues to aspire and work towards becoming the president in 2027.
“Taking everything into account, it’s not feasible for it to happen. He should hold off until 2031; however, time is still against him.”
This follows a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, asserting that no one from the North should run against President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Akume stated that Atiku and other Northern leaders should let Tinubu serve his second term in 2027.
However, Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, dismissed Akume’s remarks and stated that Tinubu hasn’t accomplished enough for Nigerians to consider reelecting him in 2027.
Former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau remarked that there is nothing particularly remarkable about either the North or South governing Nigeria.
Shekarau emphasized that Nigerians should prioritize electing credible candidates over restricting their choices based on regional rotation.
