Deadly rivalry intensifies in Borno as ISWAP militants eliminate 20 Boko Haram fighters in a brutal confrontation.

In a recent outbreak of internal conflict in Borno State, approximately 20 Boko Haram members have been killed during a violent confrontation with their rivals from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development on his X account Tuesday, reporting that ISWAP fighters had ambushed Boko Haram insurgents in a riverine area of Abadam Local Government Area.

Makama noted that the area where the sects clashed extends into parts of Niger Republic’s Diffa region.

He mentioned that ISWAP group members unexpectedly attacked Boko Haram fighters on Monday, March 3, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 individuals.

The Boko Haram members encountered problems when ISWAP instructed all local residents to remove the dense vegetation between Dabar Giwa village in Kukawa Local Government Area and Garin Mallam Ya’u.

Makama stated that once the area was cleared, the hiding spots of the Boko Haram fighters were revealed.

He stated that these Boko Haram members had been concealed in what they believed to be a strategic location since February 27, preparing for a counterattack against ISWAP. However, the group caught them off guard.

Makama posted on X, “Instead of the anticipated ambush by Boko Haram, ISWAP executed a well-planned attack on insurgent camps situated between Tumbun Kwatar Mota and Tumbun Marakirya, close to an old ISWAP base in Tumbun Gini.”
