According to Obasanjo News24, IPOB is a group that wants to split South-east and some sections of South-South Nigeria into a sovereign state called Biafra.
Leader of IPOB Kanu vanished from Nigeria in 2017 after allegedly failing to appear for bail. In 2021, he was apprehended in Kenya and accused of terrorism.
He has remained in custody ever since the Supreme Court, on December 15, 2023, reversed a lower court’s decision to withdraw the terrorism allegations against him and declared that the charges should go forward with their trial.
