The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence has suggested that the Federal Government should procure new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

As per the committee’s findings on the presidential air fleet, it has proposed the acquisition of two additional aircraft to address concerns about the current fleet’s technical and operational capabilities.

The committee stressed the significance of ensuring safe and efficient air travel for the president and vice-president, highlighting that this investment would prove to be cost-effective in the long run.

Earlier this year, the House of Representatives tasked the committee with conducting a thorough assessment of the airworthiness and technical condition of the existing presidential aircraft.

This decision came after a motion put forth by Satomi Ahmed, the chairman of the House Committee, which triggered discussions among lawmakers on the optimal mode of presidential travel in light of reports about faulty aircraft.

Notably, during a recent trip abroad, the president had to opt for a chartered plane from the Netherlands to Saudi Arabia due to issues with the presidential air fleet.
