APC’s Sylva has secured a local government, but PDP’s Diri has won five of the state’s eight local government areas thus far.
The results collation for the Bayelsa State governorship election on November 11, 2023 has been postponed to Monday at noon by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday night.
The results have been compiled from six of the state’s eight local government areas: Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenegoa, Sagbama, Nembe, and Ekeremor. Southern Ijaw and Brass are the local government districts that survive.
The process was deferred on Sunday night by Prof. Faruq Kuta, the state returning officer for the Bayelsa election and vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
Candidate sponsorship for the Bayelsa election came from sixteen political parties.
Timipre Sylva, a former state governor and minister of state for petroleum resources, is the principal opponent of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor Duoye Diri.
