According to Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, the commission did not monitor the convention and declined to provide further details on why it was not monitored.

However, the LP had informed INEC about the change in venue and date, as the convention was initially planned to be held in Umuahia, Abia State, but was later shifted to Nnewi, Anambra State.

Mr Kehinde Edun, the LP National Legal Adviser, emphasized that the party had the freedom to choose any venue and only needed to inform INEC about the change.

Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, mandates political parties to give INEC a minimum of 21 days notice for conventions, congresses, conferences, or meetings, including those related to mergers and the election of executive committees, governing bodies, or candidates.
