Imo: Casualties Mount as Nigerian Soldiers and Armed Gunmen Engage in Fierce Battle
Several feared dead as Nigerian soldiers and gunmen engage in a deadly gun battle in Imo State, highlighting the ongoing security crisis in the area.
A firefight broke out between soldiers and unidentified gunmen in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, reportedly resulting in numerous deaths and injuries.
The Nation reported that the incident took place last night at the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano.
“According to a source, certain non-state actors launched an attack yesterday that resulted in the deaths of several soldiers in the area.”
“The entire area is ablaze, and military forces have occupied nearby communities,” the source stated.
After the incident, residents fled in panic as continuous gunfire filled the air, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.

“We are absolutely frightened,” said a resident who requested anonymity.
The echoes of gunfire still linger in our ears, leaving us uncertain about what lies ahead. We are concerned.
“Ehime was once a peaceful place, and we’re unsure of what’s happening now,” he added.
As of the time the report was filed, OBASANJONEWS reached out to both the Nigerian Army and Police for their comments on the development, but they have not yet responded.
This incident occurred just days after the home of Senator Frank Ibezim, a former lawmaker who represented the Okigwe senatorial zone in the 9th Assembly, and the National Open University center in Ezeoke Nsu Ehime Mbano Local Government were set on fire.
The incident was condemned by the Imo State Police Command.
