Benue Attack: Suspected Herdsmen Kill 2 Soldiers, 7 Villagers

A devastating incident occurred in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State where suspected herdsmen reportedly killed two soldiers and seven villagers, including the village chief of Eguma community.
A former member of the local government who represented the local government in the Benue State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019, Audu Sule, in an interview with Channels Television, detailed the attack.
He said that on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at about 3pm, the herdsmen invaded Eguma village and launched a violent attack on the community.

According to Sule, military personnel stationed in nearby Ogwulu village responded to an emergency call from Eguma.
However, two soldiers, the village chief and six other villagers lost their lives during the operation, bringing the total number of casualties to nine.
This incident marks the fourth attack on Eguma and Ogwulu villages in the past month, highlighting the ongoing security threats facing residents.
Mr Sule expressed deep concern about the ongoing violence and the danger it poses to the communities. Military intervention led to a gunfight with suspected herders who managed to flee the scene following a tragic loss of life.
