I’m Not Moved by Supreme Court Judgment – Gov Fubara Declares
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara stands firm, stating he remains unfazed by the Supreme Court ruling, vowing to continue his leadership without intimidation.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has defended his choice to retract the appeal regarding the 2024 budget, stating that he remains confident in this decision even after the recent Supreme Court ruling.
Governor Fubara clarified that the 2024 budget cycle officially ended on December 31, 2024, eliminating the need for further legal actions. He stressed his administration’s dedication to concentrating on current governance matters instead of lingering over outdated fiscal issues.
The Supreme Court recently delivered a ruling on the budget case, imposing costs against the state government. Nevertheless, Fubara asserted that withdrawing from the matter was in the state’s best interest to prevent prolonged legal distractions.
In a statement issued on Monday by Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Fubara declared that “the appeal serves no practical purpose. The only sensible option remaining was to withdraw it and let it be dismissed.”
He also emphasized, “The Supreme Court handles a significant workload. It would be imprudent to overwhelm the esteemed court with theoretical appeals that lack any practical or utilitarian significance. That is the appeal being celebrated by some.”
“There is no Supreme Court ruling against Governor Fubara. Disregard the outdated political propaganda being spread by certain desperate politicians,” Johnson stated.
The statement clarified that the Supreme Court’s ruling solely addressed the governor’s voluntary withdrawal of the appeal, which became moot after the complete implementation of the 2024 budget.
In the meantime, sources close to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike chose not to comment on the issue due to its seriousness.
