IGP Ensures Police Protection for Nationwide Protesters

Senior police officers have been directed by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to guarantee the protection of those participating in #EndBadGovernance protests set for August 1-10, 2024.

The Principal Staff Officer, CP Johnson Adenola, signed a letter on July 29th, 2024 in response to human rights lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa’s (SAN) request. The directive was included within the letter.

On July 28, 2024, Adegboruwa reached out to the police chief in order to secure protection for the protesters who were experiencing hunger.

After receiving this request, the IGP instructed higher-ranking officers including Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (Operations and Intelligence), Assistant-Inspectors General (AIGs) overseeing Zonal Police Headquarters as well as Commissioners of Police (CPs) throughout Nigeria to adhere dutifully.

As per the letter, it was informed that a meeting has been fixed between Adegboruwa and IGP at Abuja’s Nigeria Police Force Headquarters on Tuesday 30th July of the year 2024 to have further discussions regarding this issue.

It is my duty to inform you that the Inspector General of Police has ordered high-ranking officials such as Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (Operations and Intelligence), Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) in charge of Zonal Police Headquarters, and Commissioners of Police (CPs) overseeing State Commands throughout Nigeria to address your inquiry.

The letter stated that the Inspector General of Police desires a meeting with you at Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 to discuss your request.
