Sheik Ahmad Gumi, a renowned Islamic cleric, has expressed his opinion on the case of Mallam Tukur Mamu, a Kaduna-based publisher who was arrested on his way to Saudi Arabia.
Mamu, who is known as the lead negotiator between bandits and the families of kidnapped passengers, has been in the custody of the Department of State Services since his arrest in Cairo. Recently, Mamu and 14 others were listed as terrorist financiers.
Gumi believes that it is not the role of security agencies to label someone as a terrorist financier, as this should be determined by the court.
He emphasized that the case is already before the court, and therefore, it is the court’s responsibility to make such pronouncements.
Gumi also stated that Mamu should be taken to court to face trial, as keeping him in custody without due process is a form of intimidation and can be considered terrorism. He concluded by saying that arresting people unjustly is also a form of terrorism.
