Ice Prince: “I’m the First African Artist to Receive BET Award On Stage, Not Davido
Nigerian rapper Ice Prince clarifies he was the first African artist to accept a BET Award on stage, dismissing claims that Davido holds the title.
Nigerian artist Ice Prince has asserted that he, rather than Davido, is the first African musician to receive a BET award on stage during the ceremony.
Reports indicate that in previous years, African artists were typically honored with their awards backstage at the BET ceremony.
In a recent episode of ‘Listening’, Ice Prince, who was awarded the Best International Act, Africa Award in 2013, stated that he was the one who broke this tradition, contrary to the belief held by some fans that Davido was the first.
“I am the first African artist to go on a BET stage and receive an award solo… When you guys talk about it, you give that credit to Davido,” he remarked.
Davido garnered significant attention during his acceptance speech at the BET Awards in 2018, where he won the Best International Act award. In his speech, he advocated for increased collaborations between musicians from the United States and Africa.
