The comedian Ayo Makun, also known as AY, has refuted rumours that he used his act to turn Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti’s daughter into a dog.

According to OBASANJO NEWS24, Kuti recently admitted that, after AY’s house was destroyed by fire, he made fun of him for dressing up his daughter as a dog in a comedy film that parodied his incident with a police officer on the highway.

In response to Kuti’s accusations, AY addressed them in a video message posted on his Instagram page, in which he tagged the singer. He said that the dog in the back seat of his car in the skit was a metaphor for Hilda Baci, the holder of the Guinness World Record, who was at the time becoming well-known for consuming dog meat.

Hello, Seun. I’m here to talk about the sensationalism that has been created in the social media realm. You mentioned your child, so I thought I should reply to this.

“I adore kids. As soon as you mentioned the sketch I did in which I addressed your infant as a dog, I felt compelled to address this. I am a human who spent thirteen years looking for a child. I doubt that I will ever be in a position to make fun of kids and call them dogs.

Regarding the sketch I created somewhere in June, I would like to declare unequivocally that I am a stand-up comedian. We perform stand-up comedy and post social commentary on various events pertaining to popular topics. However, I’ve realised that in Nigeria these days, people regard comedians as serious while they consider politicians to be jokers.

If you are aware with my comedy brand and style, AY Live, you know that in addition to doing a lot of stage plays, we also just have conversations about current events. The skit now reflected current issues that were popular. I discussed fuel subsidies, which were popular at the time. Furthermore, Hilda Baci and Enioluwa were popular at the time for consuming dog flesh, if you recall. A woman then confronted them. Subsequently, I brought up the name Hilda [during the skit where the dog was seated in the rear seat of the vehicle]. In that video, I was presenting myself in that manner.

Hilda Baci was the one who, according to AY, was meant to take offence at the video, but she recognised that it was a joke.

He continued by saying that Seun Kuti had previously disparaged him and even chastised him for receiving a national award from the president.

In the meantime, Seun Kuti has disregarded AY’s justifications, claiming that “I didn’t understand the timing or the meaning of the skit video.”

You are a dick bro, he remarked on his Instagram page. It was a jackass move on your part. Since I’ve already seen your film, I’m not interested in your explanations. I understood everything about it, including the timing and significance. All I’ll talk about are your falsehoods. Your kids are just talking “bla bla bla.” My daughter was the only person seated in the backseat of my vehicle! What was placed in the rear seat of your practise run? You people must genuinely believe that you are knowledgeable. You must genuinely believe that you are someone! You guys must really believe that the smug behaviour you all refer to as careers is significant. They tag me in the video, werey dey. Black, please!
