House of Representatives calls for Tinubu to promptly reopen the northern borders
The Maigatari, Mai’Aduwa, Kongwalam, and Illela borders in Jigawa, Katsina, and Sokoto states, respectively, should be reopened, the House of Representatives asked the Tinubu government on Tuesday.
Following the approval of a proposal by Aliyu Sani Madaki, the Committee on Customs and Excise was given a mandate by the Green Chamber to ensure implementation.

The House made mention of the fact that the border towns of Maigatari in Jigawa State, Kongwalam in Katsina State, Illela in Sokoto State, as well as Kano State, are well known for their sizable markets where substantial international trade is conducted between Nigerians and citizens of Niger, Mali, Chad, Cameroon, and other neighbouring nations.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s previous administration closed the borders to let some goods to be produced locally.
