Honoring a Legend: Tinubu Names Abuja Highway After Wole Soyinka

President Bola Tinubu has officially designated the newly opened Arterial Road N20 in Abuja as a tribute to Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka.

On Tuesday, the President inaugurated the road, which stretches from Northern Parkway to Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) in Abuja.

The Arterial Road N20 serves as a vital link between the ONEX and the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) through the sector centers.

According to Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesman, this road will greatly improve the flow of vehicular traffic from the surrounding districts of Mabushi, Katampe, Jahi, and Kado.

Tinubu expressed his belief that this project is yet another testament to his administration’s commitment to developing every part of the country.

He stated, “I am pleased to accept the recommendation to name this Arterial Road N20 after Wole Soyinka. He is not only our foremost playwright, novelist, and Nobel Prize winner, but he has also brought Nigeria immense fame, pride, and international recognition. Thank you for this thoughtful suggestion, and on behalf of the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we wholeheartedly embrace it.”

The President emphasized that this project highlights his government’s dedication to improving infrastructure and promoting sustainable development.

“The completion of this significant project underscores our unwavering commitment to constructing resilient and robust infrastructure that caters to the needs of our growing population and stimulates economic growth.

“I am also aware that this project has created employment opportunities for over 1,500 Nigerians, which is commendable and a testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda’s success in generating job opportunities for our youth.

“As we inaugurate this road today, we must also recognize its broader vision. This project is a crucial element of our administration’s comprehensive plan to transform the FCT into a world-class city.

“It is also in line with our broader objectives of enhancing urban infrastructure, promoting sustainable development, and ensuring the well-being of our citizens.”
