Governor Abba Yusuf has pledged to see that Abdulmalik Tanko, a school teacher in Kano, is executed five months after Tanko was found guilty of killing Hanifa Abubakar, a five-year-old student.

The governor declared that the court’s sentence had to be executed.

Yusuf gave a speech at a celebration held in Kano to honour the 2024 International Children’s Day.

Following their conviction for Hanifa’s murder, a Kano State High Court sentenced Tanko and his accomplice, Hashimu Ishyaku, to death by hanging.

In no small part, Yusuf stated, giving the convicted killers the justice they deserve will act as a deterrence to those who are plotting evil against children.

He claims that in order to guarantee that all children in the state receive high-quality education, the state is about to declare a “state of emergency on education.”

“To ensure quality education, we mean a comprehensive approach that includes, among other things, the renovation of dilapidated schools and infrastructure and the provision of free education,” he stated.

Additionally, the governor pledged that free school lunches and free uniforms would be available to all state students in primary one through three in the near future.

Hajiya Aisha Lawan, the State’s Commissioner for Women, Children, and Disabled, had earlier praised the governor for his initiatives, which included providing free education to elementary and secondary students and reducing tuition costs for postsecondary students by half.

Hauwa Ibrahim, the Speaker of the Children’s Parliament in Kano State, for her part urged the state administration to put the Child Right Act into effect for the benefit of the state’s youth.
