Hamas has released four Israeli soldiers as part of a prisoner swap agreement, marking a significant development in ongoing negotiations between both sides.

On Saturday, Hamas militants released four female Israeli soldiers who had been held captive for 15 months. This release was part of a planned exchange involving the transfer of 200 Palestinian prisoners or detainees to Israel and took place under the supervision of the Red Cross.

This marks the second exchange since a tenuous ceasefire was implemented last weekend, pausing hostilities in Gaza for at least six weeks.

A crowd in a Tel Aviv square erupted into cheers and applause on Saturday as they watched a screen display the transfer of four hostages from Hamas to the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip.

A few individuals sported vibrant yellow T-shirts with the message “you are not alone.”

Red Cross vehicles were spotted outside Ofer Prison in the West Bank.

It is another test for the ceasefire, which seeks to de-escalate the deadliest and most destructive conflict ever waged between Israel and the militant group.
